San Francisco · Tech Week · Wednesday 7 October 2026

Tech Week in one day. Twelve rooms, one day.

I had one day in San Francisco and several hundred events to choose from. So I picked the rooms that sit along Market Street, where the city is flat and BART and Muni run underneath, and stacked them back to back, with one detour to Potrero Hill that was worth it. Every stop shows the walk from the one before and the time to leave. Tick them off as you go.

I flew in straight from the inaugural Hollywood & Mind in New York the night before. Two coasts, one week, and the same question in both rooms: what happens to the people building all of this.

Volunteer with M13: Engineers Give Back

M13 · Potrero Hill · 08:00 to 10:00

From SFO: BART to 16th St Mission (about 25 min, about $11), then Uber or Lyft about 7 min (about $10 to $14), or walk about 20 min.

Engineers and a venture firm packing food bags for neighbours in need, then brunch. Working side by side is the easiest introduction of the day, and brunch is where the conversation happens.

From Potrero Hill: Uber or Lyft about 15 min ($14 to $20), or walk to 16th St Mission BART and ride to Montgomery (about $2.50). You arrive around 10:20.

Ask a question in the Q&A so people know your name. The 11:00 to 12:00 matchmaking hour is the reason to come.

How it actually went

The day didn’t go exactly to plan, and that’s the most useful thing on this page. Tech Week rewards whoever shows up to the rooms that matter, not whoever ticks every box.
The rooms I made it to: MATCH HOUSE, the Female Founders and Funders Walk at Salesforce Park, Scaling Innovation Across Borders (Shusaku Yamamoto and Silicon Valley Bank), the Social Impact SF Mixer, and speedrun × OpenAI Founder Night.
The open mic. I pitched at the Social Impact SF Mixer, in front of a room of mission-driven founders and nonprofit leaders.
Getting around, for real: two trains in, and I walked to every room after that. Everything really is within walking distance along Market Street. The only ride I needed was to the last party of the night.
Bag storage: $15 for the day.

Thank you

The Tech Week team at tech-week.com, for turning a whole city into a calendar anyone can apply to, and for doing it again in Los Angeles next week.
The hosts who opened these rooms: M13, Sisters Female Founders, MATCH HOUSE, Boop, FirstGlance, LILA Sciences, A Good Reputation, PwC, VizCo, Ooda, the Arizona Commerce Authority and KPMG, House of 434, interface.ai, Shusaku Yamamoto and Silicon Valley Bank, Venturous Counsel, Social Impact SF and RemotelyGood.us, and a16z speedrun. Somebody had to book the room, order the food and stay to stack the chairs. Thank you.

Next year, a different kind of room

I run Finesse Our Minds, a youth mental health and suicide prevention nonprofit in Los Angeles. Seven years of this work.
Tech Week has a room for every stage of a company. It doesn’t have one yet for the people building them, about what happens when they are not okay.
Next year I want to host mental health, suicide prevention and tech events at Tech Weeks around the world. Not a panel about burnout. A room where founders and engineers learn what to say in the ninety seconds after someone tells them they are struggling.
If you host at Tech Week, sponsor it, or want your name on that room, I want to hear from you. Get in touch or email finessehumxn@gmail.com.

What it costs

Tap to pay. Any contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay works at BART and Muni gates. You don't need a Clipper card.
BART. SFO to 16th St Mission or downtown is about $11 and 25 to 30 minutes. Rides inside the city are about $2.50.
Muni. $2.85 a ride with tap or Clipper, $3 cash. The 1-day Visitor Passport is $15, which only pays off at 6 or more rides.
Uber or Lyft. Short hops of 1 to 2 miles run about $9 to $15, more in the 8am and 5 to 7pm surges. SFO to downtown is about $40 to $60. These are estimates, so check the app.
Bag storage. Bounce is about $5.90 a bag for the day, insured, near most BART stations. SFO’s own storage (International Terminal, Departures) is about $15 to $35 and open 06:00 to 23:00. If you are flying out late, store near a BART station on the SFO line instead and collect on the way back.
What I actually spent: $15 on bag storage, two train fares, and one ride to the last party. Walking the Market Street stretch kept the rest free.

How to run a day like this

Apply the night before. Tech Week events are approval-gated, not first come first served. Hosts clear the queue in the morning, so an application sent at midnight is read with the 8am batch.
One goal per room. Decide before you walk in what you are leaving with, a name, an introduction or a booked call. Get it, then leave on time. Thirteen rooms only works if you leave on time.
Send follow-ups on the walk. One message per person, naming one thing they actually said. Sent within the hour, it is worth more than the next room.
Solve the bag first. Bounce and Radical Storage both have spots near Powell for a few dollars, and big hotel bell desks on Market will usually hold one for about $10.
Stay on the Market Street lane. Powell, Montgomery, Embarcadero and Civic Center cover every room here. Put Clipper in your phone wallet and tap through.
Shoes. Gel insoles from any downtown Walgreens or CVS and a spare pair of socks for the 1pm sit-down. That is the difference between finishing the night and leaving at four.

The cut list

The morning walks and runs (Run & Raise 5k, The Story Walk, GTM Run Club). Great rooms, but not with a day bag and fourteen hours of standing ahead.
First Pour (Theory Ventures) and Women in AI/ML at LILA at 08:00 and 08:30 both lost to M13. LILA comes back at 13:15 anyway.
HSBC Family Office Salon and Leverage with Anthropic, Greylock and Palantir at 09:00. Both strong, and both collided with the 09:30 matchmaking morning.
Early-Stage GP Lunch in Jackson Square at noon broke the lane in the middle of the day.
AI Law, Compliance & GovTech (SFPlayground, Club345, 345 California St) is a strong room, but it is ticketed at $50. It is in FiDi too, so it is an easy swap if you want it.
